About This Wine
Chateau Lauriga
Chateau Lauriga, a captivating vineyard located between Perpignan la Catalane and Thuir in the picturesque region of Roussillon, is renowned for producing exceptional AOP Côtes du Roussillon wines.
The secret to Chateau Lauriga's enchanting wines lies in the harmonious blend of the Tramontaine terroir, carefully selected grape varieties, and the expertise of their winemaking team. The range of wines offers a delightful array of complex aromas and flavours, reflecting the unique characteristics of the region. From dry Muscat, Grenache, and Macabeu for their white wines, Lauriga combines traditional and international grape varieties, such as Carignan, Grenache blanc and noir, Muscat of Alexandria, Petit Grain, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Mourvèdre, and Merlot, to produce aromatic wines that showcase the true essence of the Roussillon region.
Steeped in history, Chateau Lauriga is housed within an ancient Catalan 'mas,' or farmhouse, once belonging to the Clar family. The old cellar has been modernised and equipped with state-of-the-art vinification and ageing facilities. The vineyard spans an impressive 60 hectares across three of the key Roussillon terroirs. It proudly preserves the tradition of cultivating both traditional and international grape varieties, resulting in wines that exhibit great regional typicity and charm.
Lauriga's vineyards bear historical significance as well. Part of the land was once a part of the old Laurinya, gifted to the Cuixà Abbey by the King of France in 1068. It later became the King's vineyards and supplied wines served at the court of the King of Aragon. This rich heritage and connection to the land add an extra layer of depth to the wines produced at Lauriga.
