About This Wine
Domaine de la Ferrandiere
Established in 1922 by the GAU Family, Domaine Ferrandière is located in between Corbières and Minervois. The estate offers a range of wines that perfectly express the signature characteristics of their grapes due to a unique terroir.
Their 100-hectare estate is planted on the reclaimed salt-water lagoon of Marseillette. Around 15 million years ago, the water levels decreased little by little leaving layers of sediments and salt. When the Mediterranean Sea got to the point where it is now (around 2 million years ago) it had left 2000ha of stagnant water full of reeds and samphire which is today the Etang de Marseillette. To remove the salt which has built up in the soil, certain parts of the lagoon are flooded each year. Domaine Ferrandière is flooded for 40 days in winter in order to get rid of the salt content. On this extraordinary land, they can produce un-grafted vines which produce grapes with intense flavours and a crisp acidity.
18 grape varieties are planted on the estate. The vines are between 6 and 30 years old and are machine-harvested and trained with the Cordon de Royat and Guyot Simple systems. The Estate is farmed sustainably and is both Terra Vitis certified and High Environmental Value (HVE) level 3 certified.
