Zensa Nero D'Avola

The wine has a deep purple-red colour & intense aromas of blackberries & blueberries. The palate is soft & silky, bursting with spicy flavours of black pepper, dark chocolate, wild berries & vanilla. The tannins are elegant yet persistent. The finish is long & lingering and offers a burst of wild cherries at the end.

About This Wine

Zensa
Pronounced SENZA. The Italian definition of “without”, or “to do without”. No chemicals, no pesticides. Only what Mother Nature has given us. A range of incredibly delicious wines produced using exclusively organic grapes.
Zensa Wine is made by Orion Wines, a company created to bring together interesting wines from small growers and wineries from all over Italy. The company was created by Luca Pomaro and winemaker Alessandro Michelon and Orion Wines retains complete control over the vineyards and growers they work with. The idea is to produce wines from indigenous grapes that express the typicity of the particular region where they are grown.
The grapes are sourced from organic vineyards in Puglia where the vines are grown as free-standing bush vines. 100% Primitivo grapes are harvested by hand into small wooden crates. The crates are then placed in aerated lofts for 2 to 3 weeks to dry the grapes out. During this process, known as Appassimento and famously used in Amarone production, the grapes lose about 30% of their weight. Thus the flavours, aromas and natural sweetness are all concentrated.
